Offer Description
- Full time or part time, fixed term for 12 months
- Level A or B (depending upon experience)
- Salary starting from $86,584 (level A) to $122,830 (level B) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
A research focused academic will work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) health at level A or B to apply and develop their expertise in conducting research to further the Faculty and School's research agenda. The successful applicant would conduct research and/or scholarly activities under the limited supervision of senior academic staff, either independently or as part of a research team. They would work on a sub-project focused on the results from First Nations participants in the Comparing buprenorphine to methadone post-release from custody in NSW (The Release study). This will require reviewing the quantitative and qualitative data collected from the Release study but with a focus on outcomes for First Nations participants. The applicant will also undertake/support some original data collection with organising one-to-one interviews or focus groups with key leaders in First Nations health. The aim of the new data collection is to develop further understanding of the cultural and social context of providing buprenorphine or methadone post-release from custody for First Nations people in NSW.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- undertake or assist with primary qualitative data collection including one-to-one interviews or focus groups with staff from both Aboriginal community controlled and government run health services.
- undertake coding, analysis and the drafting of result from primary qualitative data collection activities.
- conduct research, scholarly or professional activity, independently and as part of a team, including the drafting of literature reviews related to opioid agonist treatment (OAT) or more broadly to drug and alcohol treatment among First Nations people.
- support the maintenance of existing partnerships with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations in the drug and alcohol field in NSW.
About you
- Research Masters or Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health or related field
- experience working with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector and/or Aboriginal Health Research OR Previous experience in the alcohol and other drug sector, research studies, online interventions and/or illicit drugs education, or social media would be well regarded.
- experience in social research (e.g. conducting interviews, focus groups, surveys).
- previous experience in undertaking or supporting research including systematic reviews, epidemiological studies, controlled trials or related projects, including collection, analysis and reporting of qualitative and quantitative research data.
- experience with grant preparation and preparing manuscripts for publication.
