Offer Description

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Medicine.

Applications are invited for a 2-year full-time (with a possibility to extend) Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland-funded Postdoctoral research position under the supervision and direction of Dr Dearbhaile Dooley at UCD School of Medicine and UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular & Biomedical Research.

By using both in vitro and in vivo techniques, the successful candidate will investigate the behaviour and interactions of heterogeneous glial populations that inhabit the SCI lesion site. Candidates will have excellent current knowledge of the literature in the field; maintain accurate and comprehensive experimental records with excellent attention to detail; assist in preparing presentations and reports as required; maintain laboratory equipment and facilities, and other duties associated with the research project, of an occasional nature, which may be assigned by the Principal Investigator, Dr Dearbhaile Dooley.

Salary Range: €45,847 - €52,339 Per Annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Eligibility criteria

Mandatory:

*PhD in Biomedical Science (or related discipline), ideally in the field of Neuroscience and/or Immunology.
*Excellent technical laboratory skills in protein-based assays; immune-assays, mammalian primary cell culture, imaging/microscopy.
*A demonstrated commitment to research and publications
*An understanding of the operational requirements for a successful research project
*Evidence of research activity (publications, conference presentations, awards) and future scholarly output (working papers, research proposals, and ability to outline a research project.
*Evidence of research activity (publications, conference presentations, awards) and future scholarly output (working papers, research proposals, and experience of writing a funding application).
*Excellent Communication Skills (Oral, Written , Presentation etc)
*Excellent Organisational and Administrative skills including a proven ability to work to deadlines
*Candidates must demonstrate an awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.

Desirable:

*Experience in neurotrauma/neuroinflammation/spinal cord injury research.
*iPSC cell culture experience.
*Experience in immunology research and flow cytometry.
*Experience in transcriptomics.
*In vivo research experience - FELASA B/C, LAST Ireland certification or equivalent.
*Demonstrated understanding of the value of academic and commercial information e.g. non-disclosure agreements.
*Knowledge of IP processes and knows how to protect findings.
