Description
The hosting group provides a collaborative research network of economists, environmentalists, agricultural engineers and geographers lying on agricultural economics and rural development.
Their current research is focused on the adaptation and mitigation of climate change impacts on agricultural activity and agroecosystems.
Agricultural adaptation to climate change relies on shifting current conventional practices by farmers to transformative best agricultural practices.
The hosting group works on the comprehensive assessment of the best alternative agricultural practices for the adaptation of current agricultural systems.
This includes both supply and demand analysis, considering not only farmers’ willingness to adopt but also consumers’ willingness to support such transition.
Supply analysis of best agricultural practices to climate change adaptation addresses, first, changes on farm cost structure comparing with current conventional practices, and, secondly, farmers’ willingness to adopt.
This last includes the design and proposal of the incentives and/or nudges that engage them to adopt alternative best agricultural practices.
Demand analysis integrates the assessment of consumers’ preferences for sustainably produced agricultural products and their willingness to pay more for them.
Also, it includes the analysis of agricultural value chains and the distribution of added value of sustainable agricultural products from consumers to farmers.
This summarizes the activity of the MSCA PF hosting group in which the fellow will be involved, which commonly applies market (financial analysis) and non-market valuation methodologies (stated preference methods, cost-benefit analysis).
