Offer Description
Work assignments
Research, development and creative activities, at least 80% of working time
- Participation in RDC activities under the supervision of a professor or associate professor.
- International-level research in the volume equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses in five years.
- Development of skills necessary for RDC activities, and professional development.
Teaching and activities related to the administration and development of teaching, up to 15% of working time
- Teaching, using modern teaching methods and educational technology, primarily supervising students of the first and second level of higher education.
- Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills.
Participation in the governance and institutional development of the university and social and public activities, up to 5% of working time
- Participation in the work of the university’s decision-making bodies is recommended.
- Popularisation of the specialisation.
Education
PhD or an equivalent qualification.
Work experience
- Ability to participate in RDC activities in the specialisation.
- International-level research in the specialisation, the volume of which so far is equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis.
- Excellent knowledge in human microbiome research.
- Previous experience with establishing microbiome cohorts, conducting experiments and analysing large-scale 16S rRNA gene and metagenome data and performing statistical analysis on health data (e.g. electronic health records).
- Previous experience in scientific collaboration with clinicians.
- Expert of using various statistical methods and command of R programming language.
- Previous experience with writing research articles and grants.
- Prior experience in popularizing science in the field of microbiome, both orally and in writing.
- Prior experience in mentoring bachelor’s and master's students.
Language skills
Very good command of English. According to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.
