Offer Description

24 months contract | Belval Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

You will join the Intelligent and Clean Energy Systems (ICES) research unit and the Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage research group. The group focuses on developing next-generation materials and systems for sustainable energy solutions. Our research spans fuel cells, electrolyzers, batteries, and power-to-X systems, with a strong emphasis on bridging fundamental research and industrial applications.

This postdoctoral position is part of a cutting-edge project aimed at developing high power density and lightweight fuel cells for drone applications. By optimizing electrode and membrane materials, we seek to enhance reaction kinetics, ionic conductivity, and overall fuel cell performance and power density, making hydrogen-powered drones a viable alternative for extended-range UAV operations.

How will you contribute?

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will play a key role in the design, development, and experimental validation of high-performance fuel cell materials. Your focus will be on optimizing electrode and membrane materials to improve reaction kinetics, structural properties, and power output while ensuring lightweight fuel cell stack design for drone integration.

  • Design and synthesize advanced electrode and membrane materials to enhance electrochemical performance.

  • Conduct in-depth testing of fuel cell components, including reaction kinetics, ionic conductivity, and structural stability.

  • Work on improving power density through material selection, and interface engineering.

  • Develop and execute performance tests to evaluate fuel cell performance and durability under relevant operating conditions.

  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams and publishing high-impact research articles.

Your Profile

Education and Experience

  • PhD in materials science, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong background in electrochemical energy conversion systems, particularly in fuel cells.

  • Experience in experimental research, materials synthesis, and electrochemical characterization.

  • Proven track record of scientific publications in high-impact journals.

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in fuel cell materials development: electrodes, membranes, catalysts.

  • Hands-on experience with electrochemical characterization techniques (EIS, CV, LSV, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of reaction kinetics, ionic conductivity, and structural optimization for high-performance fuel cells. Experience in modelling of electrochemical systems is a plus.

  • Knowledge of lightweight materials and structural engineering for drone applications is a plus.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.

  • Effective communication and scientific writing skills.

Language skills

  •  Good communication skills in English, written and orally.
