Description

HOST DESCRIPTION:

Prof. Ricardo Córdoba. Dpt. History welcomes expressions of interest from Postdoctoral researchers with an excellent track record of research and publication to apply jointly from UCO to the European Commission Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme in 2025 (MSCA-PF-2025), which call will be open on 8th May 2025.

My current research focuses on the study of production techniques in the Middle Ages through the analysis of the archival and the archaeological records. From the archaeological perspective, this includes the analysis of industrial facilities (watermills, waterwheels, workshops), the experimental investigation of craft practices (glass, ceramics, metal). From an archival perspective, I largely focus on the examination of Spanish and European recipe books (textile production, leather, metallurgy, illumination of manuscripts, art technologies), as well as the experimental reproduction of these recipes to assess the final products and compare them with medieval examples. My research group is currently interested in incorporating researchers interested in medieval production, able to undertake physical-chemical analysis of materials to improve our understanding of the materials dealt with by the group as well as its dissemination and transference. My projects always intend to go beyond the state-of-the-art in in the field of archaeological experimentation, following the instructions contained in medieval recipes, often in collaboration with private companies. The final goal of my research line is to build a research group that specialises in the understanding of medieval production and technology and the development of innovative methodologies, such as the analysis of the historical value of recipes and the materials created with them, using physical and chemical analysis..

If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity, please, forward your CV and a short motivation letter including your research area, project idea and how you, and your research, could contribute to my research lines.

Expressions of interest must be forwarded before 15th May 2025 to rcllave@uco.es stating in the subject “EoI_MSCA-PF-2025”. The selected candidate will be invited to work in the application together with Prof. Ricardo Córdoba and the International Projects Office from UCO from the month of May’2025. Please, ensure your agenda allows for full dedication to the proposal preparation during the summer months, since the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship deadline is 10th September 2025.
