Two-dimensional nanomaterials (2DNMs), e.g. graphene and its derivatives but also molybdenum disulphide, are used more and more often in cutting-edge technologies used for the production of sophisticated applications but also of commonly used objects already available on the market. During the life cycle of these objects, 2DNMs can be unintentionally released into the environment and impact organisms. Previous studies have shown that graphene oxide can have negative effects on the sexual reproduction of seed plants. However, the effect of 2DNMs other than graphene and derivatives is still unknown. This project aims to deepen the knowledge on the potential ecotoxicological effects of 2DNMs on plants, on their sexual reproduction and on the possible role of flowers as a route of exposure for pollinators. The candidate will have to conduct research activities for these purposes by supervising master's and doctoral students.
