The Paris Lodron-University Salzburg invites applications for a position as full university professor for Classical Archaeology at the Department of Classics in the Faculty of Humanities.
The successful candidate is expected to represent Classical Archaeology in research and teaching in the entire range of the discipline, participate in the department's degree programmes and ensure the supervision of theses in the core areas of the subject. In research, evidence of qualified lecture and publication activity on topics in both Greek and Roman archaeology is expected.
In particular, experience in leading excavation projects is required, as well as the willingness, and ability to continue the Aegina Kolonna research project as excavation director with primary responsibility for planning and implementation and for raising third-party funds to this end.

Job requirements:
- a doctorate/PhD degree in Classical Archaeology in Austria or abroad
- a habilitation (venia docendi) or equivalent academic qualification (e.g., PhD & tenure) in Classical Archaeology
- outstanding academic achievements
- track record of pedagogical skills and university-level teaching
- demonstrated involvement in the international scientific community (e.g., peer-review activity, relevant international experience, conference organisation, presentations at top-tier conferences, and leadership in relevant academic associations/sections, etc.)
- suitability in academic leadership
- Good written and spoken German language skills or, if not available, the willingness to acquire these within three years
Additional expectations and requirements:
- participation in and expansion of research and teaching cooperations within the department, the faculty, the PLUS and in the regional, national, and international context
- participation in university committees and in university self-governance
- experience in modern science management and in the acquisition of third-party funding
- willingness to cooperate and to work interdisciplinary as well as good social skills
- willingness and qualification to assume leadership positions
- ability to lecture and examine in English or, if necessary, in another foreign language
The position is offered as a full-time tenured contract, as regulated under the Austrian University Act (UG 2002 §98 Abs.1).
