Cardiff University has established a new interdisciplinary training hub (IDTH) for a postgraduate student training and research program that addresses the urgent need for state-of-the-art biosensors and diagnostics. Biosensors find broad application in medicine and pharma, environmental monitoring, defence and security. A key challenge in biosensors and diagnostics is to combine ultra-sensitive detection technology with easy-to-use devices.

As a first cohort of students to this research program, we are still looking to recruit one fully funded PhD studentships:

Academic criteria

A BSc 2.1 or Masters level qualification in a relevant subject area is required.

Possible interview dates: to be held at the start of July

For the interview applicants are asked to prepare a short (10 minutes maximum) oral presentation on their research interests or a recent/current research project. Use of Powerpoint is encouraged.

Given current Government advice, we plan to conduct interviews remotely.

What is funded

This studentship includes Home/EU fee and stipend. The stipend and fees are at the UKRI rate (for 2020/21 is £15,285; £4,407 respectively).

Eligibility criteria

The studentship is open to:

•UK students

•EU students who have been resident in the UK for three years at the course start date
