Offer Description

The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of a

University Professor of Pharmacology and Drug Therapy

at the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy.

It is a position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz - UG) and will be based on a civil-law employment contract with the University on the basis of the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract will be concluded for an unlimited period; the extent of employment is 100%.

Responsibilities include

Representation of the subject of “Pharmacology and Drug Therapy” both in research and teaching. The research focus should include innovative concepts of modern pharmacology and employ advanced experimental methods. Projects with new perspectives for drug development and/or to increase medication therapy safety should also be considered.

The research activities of the professorship should particularly strengthen existing research priorities at the Institute of Pharmacy and contribute to existing university research programs.  Cooperation is expected with the Center for Molecular Biosciences/CMBI at the University Innsbruck and/or various clinical and non-clinical research groups at the Medical University of Innsbruck. The potential to work across disciplines with the research areas Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy & Pharmaceutical Biology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology as well as related fields is required. The development of innovations at the interface of different disciplines is of central importance, to strengthened the restructuring process of the Institute of Pharmacy which began in December 2024.

Teaching includes the entire field of "Pharmacology and Drug Therapy" and is characterized by high-quality, both research-guided and practice-oriented teaching that uses digital media and modern didactic concepts in the study programs of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy (Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs). Changing requirements for pharmacy graduates require intensive participation in the further development of existing curricula. The goal is to remain competitive with national and international universities at the highest level. In teaching, the range of tasks includes conveying molecular-pharmacological foundations, training in evidence-based drug therapy, and teaching current guidelines for drug therapy of important diseases. A central task is also to impart well-founded knowledge about strategies in preclinical and clinical drug development. In the Master's program in Pharmaceutical Sciences - Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs, this knowledge also forms a foundation for the comprehensive understanding of the drug development process. In addition, close integration with the core subject of Clinical Pharmacy is planned to also take into account the Austrian Pharmacy Act reformed in 2024 (Article 3, §36a). Participation in drug therapy issues concerning the Medical Ethics Committee (Med. Univ. Innsbruck) and the Ethics Advisory Board (Univ. Innsbruck) is desired. Participation in the Drug Commission (Tirol-Kliniken) and pharmacological continuing education of pharmacists, physicians, and other healthcare personnel should be possible.

Active participation in academic self-administration in committees at the institute and faculty level is an integral part of this professorship.

Employment Requirements include
