OFFER DESCRIPTION

Work group:

JCNS-1 - Neutronenstreuung und Weiche Materie

Area of research:

Scientific / postdoctoral posts

Job description:

Neutrons provide an extraordinary view into matter, helping to develop more powerful magnetic data storage devices and synthetics materials, or to understand the function of proteins. The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) uses neutrons as microscopic probes to conduct research on condensed and biological matter. Therefore, JCNS develops, builds and operates neutron scattering instruments, which are offered to a large user community at world-leading neutron sources at MLZ in Garching and at ILL in Grenoble. Researchers at JCNS can use world-class scientific instruments with dedicated sample environment and state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure, and receive support from dedicated expert staff. Research at JCNS focuses on the four major topics “Neutron Scattering and Soft Matter”, “Quantum Materials and Collective Phenomena”, “Neutron Analytics for Energy Research”, and “Neutron Methods”.

Your Job:

  • Lead the Neutron Simulation Lab
  • Coordinate JCNS simulation, data analysis and IT projects
  • Establish and coordinate JCNS data management
  • Perform own independent research
  • Collaborate with simulation and software groups of other national and international institutions
  • Prepare project applications for third-party funding
  • As the Simulation Lab is built up, line and project responsibility for scientists and software engineers will gradually come along

Your Profile:

  • University degree (master, diploma) and ideally a Ph.D. degree in natural sciences or informatics
  • Experience in software development
  • Preferably experience in application of high-performance computers and GPUs
  • Preferably experience in application of machine learning
  • Very good command of English language, preferably also German
  • Knowledge in neutron scattering is an asset
  • Leadership and communication skills are desirable

Our Offer:

We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the chance to actively help in shaping the change! We support you in your work with:
