Introduction

The INL is seeking a self-motivated in Electrical or Electronics Engineer to join the System Engineering Group. The group focus is to bring advanced Nanoelectronics, into mainstream applications within the semiconductor, biomedical, agri-food, industrial, and space markets. The Profitec project aims the deployment of conductive fabrics in car seats that will work both as sensors for the metrology of the shape and posture of the driver and passengers, as well as heating elements. This position specifically requires the development of advanced signal acquisition and the electronics processing for the instrumentation of capacitive sensors, as well the development of power electronics for controlling of the heating process.

 

Job Role & Key Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will undertake the following main activities and responsibilities:

  • Development of a Hardware/Software Electronics System capable of interfacing fabrics sensors, to be integrated in future In-Vehichle-Infotainment (IVI) systems associated with occupant safety.

 

Job Requirements

 Candidates should meet the following requirements:

 

Qualifications

  • MSc Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or any other relevant field;

 

Experience and Technical Skills

  • Relevant experience in analog circuit design electronics (including power electronics;
  • Experience in firmware programming (C, C++);
  • Experience in CAN bus communications;
  • Experience with CAD tools (PCB design and SPICE simulation) and FEM tools (Comsol or similar 3D tools);
  • Knowledge in electromagnetics (electrostatics);
  • Knowledge in building sensor test setups, including computer interfacing (e.g. Labview, Matlab or Python) and data acquisition (Labview or Python), will be valued;
  • Knowledge of microelectronics, CMOS transistor level design, will be valued.

 

 Personal Skills

  • Strong motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary environment, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and to meet deadlines;
  • Team work spirit;
  • Good communication skills;
  • “Hands-on” approach together with a high commitment in respecting working deadlines;
  • Highly organised and dynamic.

 

Note: Candidates should not have a labour contract with INL during the 12 months before the application.

 

Languages

Excellent communication skills in English are required since it’s the working language of INL.

 

Supervision

The work plan will be developed at the INL under the scientific guidance of João Piteira.

 

Duration of the contract

The total duration of the employment contract shall be 24 months. The expected starting date is May/June 2021.
