About the Role

This role provides research contract administration, management and support services to  Flinders University researchers and other key stakeholders.

As Research Contracts Officer you will be responsible for collaborative research agreements, services agreements, research project variations, confidentiality agreements for research purposes and IP sharing with external parties, memoranda of understanding with industry or other research institutions, material transfer agreements and subcontracting arrangements with government, industry, and other research institutions.

This role is also responsible for:

  • Reviewing and negotiating the terms and conditions of research related agreements with industry, government, and other research institutions.
  • Preparing and negotiating the terms and conditions of student or status holder Intellectual Property agreements.
  • Reviewing and providing advice to researchers on contractual obligations, special conditions or restrictions, or programmatic and other deliverables required by specific funding schemes.
  • Working with the other members of the Research Development and Support team to identify, define and resolve issues related to sponsored project contracting activities in accordance with Commonwealth or State government, or other funding bodies, institutional policies, and regulations.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Leadership Team comprise the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Training and Capabilities) and Dean of Graduate Research, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Enterprise and Infrastructure), the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Performance and Impact), the Chief Research Development Officer and the Research Lead: Indigenous Research Strategy.  This team, together with the Research Development and Support (RDS) and the Office of Graduate Research (OGR) Teams provide leadership and support to achieve the University’s research goals. 

The Portfolio includes: 

The Research Development and Support (RDS) Team works with Flinders researchers, Colleges, Institutes and Centres, other portfolios and external stakeholders to proactively support research. 

The Office of Graduate Research (OGR) Team provides support, expertise and guidance for prospective and enrolled HDR students, HDR supervisors and Colleges through each stage of candidature and professional development. 

About You

You are someone who thrives in a changing and fast paced environment, and have a clear focus on quality customer service, which showcases your high-level verbal and written communication skills. This enables you to work and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders.

Your high-level attention to detail and excellent time management skills allow you to prioritise tasks within a team of professionals, to meet tight deadlines.

You can also demonstrate:

  • Expertise in research contract management and administration, including drafting, negotiating, reviewing and administration of research contracts and other related documents in a complex environment.
  • Contemporary knowledge of, and experience working in, the Australian research landscape, including knowledge of compliance requirements for major grant funding schemes such as ARC and NHMRC.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercise initiative and judgment in interpreting and applying a range of policies and procedures and work with a broad range of stakeholders, such as academic and professional staff.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Excel, document/record management systems and a relevant research management system.

You will also have completed tertiary qualifications with subsequent relevant experience or significant experience and specialist expertise in research contract administration.
