WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

We are looking to fill a Researcher II position (roughly equivalent to a postdoc) in semantics at the Department of Czech Language. The successful candidate will work within a research project hosted at Masaryk University, Brno and investigated jointly with the Charles University in Prague and the Czech Academy of Sciences (PI Pavel Caha). The specific research area for this position is the semantics and morphosyntax of adverbial quantifiers in a comparative perspective. The mentor of the postdoc is Marcin Wągiel.
 

MAIN JOB CONTENT

Framework

  • Independent research on the topic of the project

  • Publishing research results (ideally in Q1 journals)
  • Writing and submitting grant applications
  • The content of the research activity:
  • event semantics, specifically event quantification and eventive part-whole structures
  • the event-internal/external distinction
  • compositional properties of quantificational adverbial expressions including classifier constructions
  • the form/meaning correspondences of quantificational adverbials from a typological perspective

Professional education, qualifications and experience

  • The candidate must have a Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field. In the ideal case, the candidate will have a PhD in hand by the start date (July 1st) or shortly thereafter.
  • It is necessary that within the last 5 years, the candidate held at least a 0.5 academic position outside Czechia for at least 2 years, or was a PhD student outside Czechia for the same period. Czech citizens are not excluded.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 publications (article, book, bookchapter, letter or review) in WoS/Scopus within the last 3 years. The postdoc is the main (first/corresponding) author of at least one of these publications. Alternative publication records will be considered.
  • Prior work on the research topic and/or experience with research projects is an advantage
