Offer Description

Contributing to the scientific program associated with the VAMOS spectrometer.
Participating in the experimental program and in the operation of the VAMOS spectrometer.

You will be involved in the scientific activity involving the VAMOS spectrometer, devoted to the study of the spectroscopy of neutron-rich nuclei, the fission mechanism, the multi-nucleon transfer mechanism among other topics, and the experimental developments associated with the detection setup of the spectrometer. The VAMOS++ spectrometer (VAriable Mode Spectrometer) is a large acceptance spectrometer offering unique identification capabilities for reactions around the Coulomb Barrier.
Mains Activities
-The installation of detection devices and associated electronics, and support for experiments during the VAMOS experimental campaigns at GANIL
-The analysis of data obtained during experiments scheduled during the VAMOS experimental campaign in 2026-2027 associated with the scientific topics of the FIRE group (study of the fission mechanism of actinides and pre-actinides).

The Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) is a national research infrastructure based on the use of ion beams. Its fields of research are fundamental research in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics, the study of materials under irradiation and nanostructuring, molecular collisions and the interstellar medium, radiobiology and innovative techniques for imaging and therapy of certain cancers.
GANIL (about 300 people) is located in France, in the city of Caen, in Normandy. It is managed jointly, within an Economic Interest Group (GIE) by the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA/DRF) and by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS/IN2P3). As a national research infrastructure, GANIL serves the national, European and international scientific community of about a thousand users.
You will be attached to the CNRS Support and Research Unit (UAR 3266) at IN2P3 and will work in the Fission and Reactions (FIRE) group, made up of 10 people (researchers, postdocs, doctoral students) within the Physics Division, which also comprises 5 other physics groups, as well as the DELPH (Detection and Lasers for Physics) and GTA (Acquisition Techniques Group) groups.
The Physics Division is composed of 25 permanent physicists, around 20 PhD students and 10 post-docs, under the responsibility of a Division Manager.
The division's staff are responsible for hosting experiments at GANIL by an international scientific community. They also lead an R&D program on detection techniques, laser techniques, data acquisition techniques for experiments, and the manufacture of targets and thin films.
The FIRE group is responsible for welcoming external teams and conducting research programs at GANIL or elsewhere.
The VAMOS Spectrometer is a large acceptance spectrometer that provides unique isotopic identification capabilites of reaction products at energies around the Coulomb barrier. The VAMOS spectrometer can be coupled to gamma-ray or charged-particle-detector arrays allowing many physics opportunities, ranging from nuclear dynamics to the nuclear structure of exotic nuclei.
Employee benefits: Possibility of renewal of CNRS contract. 53 days vacation per year (32 CA and 21 JRTT) - Teleworking - Participation in complementary health insurance - Participation in catering costs - Participation in public transport costs or mobility package - Social Action Committee.
