Le Mans Université is looking for an excellent postdoctoral researcher to build together an innovative application for an independant research fellowship to the Marie-Skłodowska Curie Actions - Postdoctoral Fellowships programme. MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships offer a rare opportunity to talented scientists: the chance to set up a research programme of their own. They provide an attractive grant for 1 to 2 years including salaries (with social care included) and allowances for mobility, family and research.
Eligibility criteria
  • By the time of the MSCA PF call deadline, applicants must be in possession of a doctoral degree and should not have more than 8 years full-time equivalent research experience (career breaks and leaves will not count towards this experience).
  • Applicants can be of any nationality but must not have resided and/or worked more than 12 months in France in the 3 years immediately prior to MSCA deadline.
The topic below has been identified for welcoming you to develop your research project at Le Mans Université and helping you to write a persuasive proposal for the European submission:
The destruction of the Notre-Dame framework, considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Gothic carpentry in France, in the fire of 15 April 2019 left thousands of charred and fragmented oak wood pieces. The archaeologists turned out this disaster into a giant scientific laboratory. Trees record variations in environmental variables, with each annual growth ring containing a means of dating and a set of anatomical and chemical markers. Thanks to new methodological approaches linking archaeology, history, dendroarchaeology and biogeochemistry, these markers are indicators of the woodland structure, the geographical origin of the wood, and past climate. The postdoctoral fellowship will contribute to this interdisciplinary reseach by exploring and exploiting written sources from cartularies and counts (XI-XIII c.). The aim is to better documents the geographical origin of Notre-Dame woods, the means of transport and the timber market. The application should be sent to (and for more information): aline.durand@univ-lemans.fr
