Project description

At UPM-CEI we are offering a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship on domain-specific adaptive processing systems based on the RISC-V ISA. As part of the position, the candidate will be involved in activities related to the following topics:

  • RISC-V ISA extensions and hardware accelerators for safety-critical applications.
  • Application of safety techniques for RISC-V-based SoCs (Dual-lock, ECCs, scrubbing, etc.)
  • Dynamic Reconfiguration and embedded FPGAs to load ISA extensions on demand.
  • In-memory/Near-Memory/Vectorial Extensions and accelerators for safety-critical AI.
  • Integration of Neuromorphic/Mixed-signal accelerators.
  • Customization to Space and Defense applications.

Physical design and ASIC implementations of RISC-V based SoCs

Brief description of the Centre/Research Group

The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) ranks among the top 60 universities in the world for Engineering and Technology and is also the leading Spanish polytechnic university in terms of employability, according to the QS World University Ranking 2024, holding the 73rd position worldwide in Engineering and Technology. This strong positioning is the result of the institution's path since its foundation in 1971, always focusing on quality teaching and research closely linked to industry. UPM is the leading Spanish university in attracting external resources for R&D&I: nearly 2,800 researchers work in its centers, organized into 215 research groups. It is a leader among Spanish universities in granted patents, with 11% of its budget coming from technology transfer activities. UPM has 16 research centers, 5 research institutes, and 3 innovation centers.

Among them is the Industrial Electronics Center (CEI), which has a long tradition of participating in national and European research projects, as well as direct collaboration with the industry. It specializes in microelectronics design, reconfigurable system design on FPGAs, and the design, prototyping, and testing of power electronics systems (www.cei.upm.es).
