We, George Church’s group in Harvard Medical School, are seeking postdoctoral applicants with substantial expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and interest in developing novel chemical biology tools.

Our lab has a long history of developing methods and strains to expand the genetic code of life. We are now at the precipice of upgrading the natural protein language with new and impactful functionalities that span from sensing to catalysis, with clear commercial and scientific value. To unlock the full potential of multiple related (and ripe) projects, we are hoping to add a new organic chemist to our interdisciplinary team.

The postdoctoral fellow will build on existing organic chemistry skills to synthesize and characterize new fluorescent probes and non-standard amino acids. Initially, the project will involve learning new synthetic methodologies that are already optimized in our lab and applying them to scaled-up manufacturing of current targets. The candidate will also be encouraged to design their own methodologies and lead compounds for project applications. Prospective candidates do not require direct experience with biological systems, but this position will present a great opportunity to acquire new expertise in chemical biology, synthetic biology, molecular biology, protein engineering, and protein biochemistry. The candidate will work closely with other postdocs and students in the Church group.

Interested candidates can contact Dr. Helena de Puig directly at hpuig@wyss.harvard.edu to learn more about this opportunity. All levels of inquiry are welcomed.
