Description
Research description
We are open for candidates interested in the interdisciplinary field of material science and engineering, preferably with a strong background in hybrid materials, coordination polymers, characterization and related fields. The projects aims to integrate metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) within 3D-printed structures using stereolithography/vat photopolymerization, yielding hierarchical porosity ranging from the nano- to micro-scale. The goal is to develop novel 3D-printed composite materials by a combination of material science, additive manufacturing and mechanical engineering. The line of sight is application within water treatment, specifically addressing the removal of perfluorinated pollutants, based on materials previously developed in our group. The sorbent design will be coupled to chemical and physical characterization, e.g., using scanning electron and atomic force microscopy (SEM, AFM), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), infrared and Raman spectroscopy and adsorption measurements. The responsibilities include (but are not limited to): - Synthesis of new metal-organic framework materials, formulation of polymer resin - MOF formulations - 3D-printing of structured sorbents - Performance evaluation including adsorption capacity and kinetics.
The suggested ERC fields are:
PE5_1 Structural properties of materials
PE5_6 New materials: oxides, alloys, composite, organic-inorganic hybrid, nanoparticles PE5_8 Intelligent materials – self assembled materials
PE5_15 Polymer chemistry
The selected candidate will be provided with full support for proposal development and writing.
Research group
The Sensors & Functional Materials laboratory is part of the Section of Mechanical Technology, DTU Engineering Technology at the Technical University of Denmark. Our research focuses on the application of porous materials (primarily metal-organic frameworks) for applications within liquid-phase adsorption and chemical sensing. The department is in the process of establishing fully refurbished research labs, fully equipped with the relevant equipment. Furthermore, we collaborate with other departments for advanced characterization (e.g., electron diffraction, transmission electron microscopy).
Application
Expressions of interest should be sent to associate professor Jonas Sundberg (jonsun@dtu.dk) no later than 30th of April 2025. The application must include: - Curriculum vitate (max. 2 pages) including publications - A one-page motivational letter specifically addressing your research interest and experience in relation to the proposed project.
If you need more information before submission, please contact Jonas Sundberg beforehand.
Expected timeline
- Submission of preproposal and expression of interest: deadline 30th April 2025
- Deadline for MSCA proposal: 10th of September 2025.
- Results will be communicated in February 2026.
- Project start at DTU 1st of September 2026.
Eligibility
The candidate must have a PhD degree or have successfully defended their doctoral thesis. Furthermore, the candidate must have a maximum of eight years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of submission (10th of September 2025) and must not have resided or carried out their research in Denmark for more than 12 months within the previous three years.
